Need to Know
For information on the Black Canyon trailhead, see
Black Canyon City Connector.
There is no parking at the Soap Creek Trailhead. The trail crosses a steep dirt road that descends into a residential neighborhood. If you follow these streets to South Maggie Mine Road, then to South Old Black Canyon Highway, there is a large pull off area at
this intersection, 1.3 miles from the trail.
Just across the highway is the noted BBQ joint, Chilleens, on 17.
Description
Access from the trailhead is via the
Black Canyon City Connector. The previous section to the south is
BCT: Table Mesa to Black Canyon City.
The trail climbs to the north before descending a series of exciting switchbacks to yet another crossing of the river. In December 2018, I was able to cross the Agua Fria on rocks about 250 feet downstream of the main MTBP BCT track.
A steep and narrow bank of bright mica-rich rock ascends a hillside. From here the trail follows an old road that is heavily eroded to a junction.
There is 1.2 miles of road before returning to singletrack, which is narrow and winding. This final section is very rough with embedded stones in the trail tread.
Trailheads farther to the north, in order:
Glorianna Trailhead
Castle Creek Trailhead
Bumble Bee Trailhead;
Black Canyon Trail (BCT) - Bumblebee TH to Treasure Mine Rd
Hidden Treasure Trailhead
Drinking Snake Trailhead
Spring Valley Trailhead
Big Bug Trailhead
