The Ute Loop climbs immediately from the trailhead with some looping switchbacks before it crosses an old two track. It continues to climb for the first 0.25 miles. After you top out, the next 0.4 miles is relatively flat before you start down a long gradual downhill. At mile 1.08, you'll intersect the La Garrita Lookout Trail.
Turn right onto the La Garrita Lookout Trail for a short distance then hang a left back onto the Ute Loop. Continue to the northeast across a large flat, open area. Shortly before the trail ends you'll descend a short rocky section. The trail ends when it intersect with Dollhand Ravine
