A beginner doubletrack climb up a Bitterroot Canyon to a pleasant lake.

Lance Pysher

Overview

The wilderness boundary is just past the lake, so if you want to go beyond the lake stash the bike and hike from there.
Dogs: Leashed

Description

A beautiful canyon and one of the few trails for beginner riders in the Bitterroot. 95% is on a car-free, mellow doubletrack. There is one section of singletrack at the trailhead and another short stretch around a cabin in the canyon.

Technical or difficult? No. But a fun spin up the canyon with awesome scenery. Popular w hikers and horses so a weekday may be the best bet. 10.4mi — 1h 30m

Dry - This trail sees a lot of horse traffic, so the bottom 1/4 is pretty sandy. Going up is fine but this can really catch you off guard COMING DOWN, so be careful.
