GH 39 - Useful Golden Horseshoe connection splitting the ridge between Prospect and Heinous Hills

Don Leinweber

Overview

Description

Golden Gate Loop (GH 39) begins and ends on Prospect Hill Road (GH 38) about equidistant in either direction from Side Door. Golden Gate Loop can be used to bypass the top of either the Prospect Hill Road, or Sawmill Road (GH 22) (aka Heinous Hill) climbs.

The doubletrack spurs off of Prospect Hill Road rolling initially. There is a false right turn in the first 1/4 mile of the trail to a campsite. Once the trail intersects Dry Gulch Trail (GH 35) it turns a hard right and begins to climb more steeply.

The trail passes several historic, mining era cabins (one of them leaning over) and tops out just after passing Harum Trail, an unmarked moto singletrack on the north side of the trail. The trail contours back to Prospect Hill Road at a three-way intersection.
