Description
From the top of the hill at West Coyote Hills Tree Park, the east end of this trail, it drops steeply down a wide dirt hillside covered by a fan-shaped collection of small ruts. Be very careful here, this is a very popular wipe-out spot for beginners, or if you're not paying attention.
(Also from the top of the hill, there is a sneaky trail up to the left, along the backyard fences, that leads to a mini-playground of hidden singletracks weaving through the trees.)
At the bottom of the hill all trails come together, and you get dumped onto the sidewalk along Coyote Hills Dr. After 100 yards or so the dirt trail veers to the left, away from the sidewalk, and leads to the trail along Rosecrans Ave. A lot of people use the sidewalk here, but you, being a REAL mountain biker, are going to use the dirt trail next to it... right? From here to Gilbert St is a mild, but steady, climb. Be careful crossing Gilbert St.
Pick up the dirt trail on the other side and begin the mild, but steady, downhill section to
Horse Trail. There are a few small jumps in the dirt along this part. About 100 yards after crossing Sunny Ridge Dr, a small traffic light, look for
Horse Trail on the right between the last house and the fire station.
