Sweet downhill trail from Eaton Saddle to Inspiration Point

Alex Fore

Description

From Eaton saddle, take the trail, not Mt Lowe Road. This is marked as "To Mt Lowe Summit" on a metal sign. First, this trail winds around to the Markham / Lowe saddle. Once at the saddle there is a final bit of uphill to where a fork of this trail splits off towards the summit of Mt Lowe. Continuing downhill, the trial winds around the East side of Mt Lowe then descends the South face.

Once on the South face, the trail becomes more difficult. Here the trail is rocky, technical, somewhat loose, and has some tight switchbacks. Same type of riding as found on Middle Sam Merrill Trail. Lots of exposure here, be careful and watch out for hikers as Mt Lowe is a popular day hike from Lake Ave for the more adventurous types.

Alternative is to hit Mount Lowe West (upper Merill) stop at the summit and head down to meet Mt Lowe Road and Mt Lowe East trail. Has some overgrown bushes in one section and a downed tree but ridable! Feb 28, 2016
