Description

The Los Pinetos trail connects the Angeles National Forest to the Placerita Nature Center park. It is a very tough climb from the Placerita Nature Center so most climb the Santa Clara Truck Route from the South end of Newhall Avenue and then come down the mountain via the Los Pinetos trail.

The trail is very steep, loose, and rutted at the bottom. But near the top the trail is shaded by oak trees and very pleasant to ride ... up or down. It's a bitch to climb, but great fun to descend. 100% singletrack.

Los Pinetos is very popular with hikers and equestrians. So be very careful coming down. There are countless blind corners. It's not uncommon to find a hiker coming up around a corner when you're on your way down.

O&B ride has easy start along Placerita Canyon. Los Pinetos is steep in a few spots. The down run is excellent, not hard. I stopped for 2 hikers. 10.7mi — 2h 02m

This is another trail that starts up in the hills miles away from where one actually parks. I think it would be more helpful to note distance and elevation to get to the trail than to leave it to discovery. Aug 25, 2014

Rode it earlier this week up and down. It is a challenging climb, but make-able. Please watch for hikers on the way down. Every time I've ridden the trail, I've encountered hikers on the way down and there isn't much room. All it takes is one or two incidents with hikers to get us removed from the trail. Oct 7, 2014
