This trail is open to traffic in both directions, but it's mostly ridden as a one-way downhill from the
Mag 7 trailhead, so it's described that way. Lots of ways to ride this one:
- It's really easy to set up a shuttle and just ride downhill,
- Ride up the road about 10 miles (park at the viewpoint just past the end of this trail),
- Ride up AND down this trail, or
- Make a HUGE loop with the other trails in the area that are even better than this one (such as
Mag 7).
The trail starts off with some flat-ish terrain, though it's bumpy (as is typical for this area) so you won't set any speed records through this singletrack section. There are great views of the La Salles, Monitor and Merrimac mesas, and Arches National Park off in the distance.
Pass through various washes and alternate between old jeep roads and sections of singletrack. There are lots of intersections, so pay attention to the blue paint marks, the signs (which are oriented for the downhill rider, not the uphill), and use the MTB Project mobile app to keep on the right trail.
The trail finishes at the road near the second hairpin turn but there's no sign and it's a little tricky to find. Look for the big swathe of slickrock and a few cairns.
Overall, it's a good trail, but not quite up there with others in the area.
