Description

This trail is blazed blue throughout, but it has very different personalities. It is barbell-shaped; two loops connected by a linear section. The loops are great. The connect park, not so great.

This description starts on the western loop. The trail leaves itself (remember, this part is a loop) at intersection 28 heading north, crossing the pipline. On the other side, is a very fun, flowing loop, sometimes called "Hermit Ladies trail". You'll be climbing somewhat (check it out the other direction for more fun), eventually crossing the pipeline again (which can be wet right here).

Entering the woods again on the other side, the trail heads downhill. The farther it gets downhill, the wetter it gets. Fortunately, there has been a ton of corduroy work in this area so much of the wet section is passable. This allows this section of the blue trail to connect to Mirkwood.

You'll cross Mirkwood at intersection 19, cross the creek, and cross Mirkwood (the other section) again at intersection 21.

Now, the non-fun really starts. The next quarter mile is probably the wettest trail section in the park. It really is not fixable. It is suggested to take the parallel pipeline up to the Old Road Trail. If it has been a drought and you continue on hoping for dryness, the trail climbs up the hill until it meets the Old Road Trail at its intersection with the pipline.

The Blue trail goes left here, essentially an extension of the Old Road, until it gets to the easily missed intersection 29. Take a left here and wind through the woods until you reach the park boundary, whereupon you head right along the boundary all the way to the edge of the Hunters Creek ravine.

Enjoy the view and follow the edge of the ravine back up the hill until you reach the pipeline and the end of this trail.
