Description

Phase 2 is a 6.0 mile intermediately skilled route. It carves its way through Michigan DNR land, with transitions of rock, dirt, and hard pack. East to west is the planned route, but the trail can easily be done in either direction for a great out and back!

The trail builders, Rock Solid Contracting, designed the trail to feel as if you are going downhill the whole time either way. There is flow for days out on this phase. The trail itself is great for newcomers and grizzled veterans alike. The whole course has something for everyone with flow that allows you to either get air for doubles or to just easily roll through. There are two bridge crossings on the course. The second bridge is skinny, which might intimidate some people.

Once you have wound your way around the woods, the trail shoots you out at High Rocks Bay, which is the proverbial end of the Keweenaw Peninsula. A rough and lose rock garden of well very small pebbles and big rocks greet you after the very scenic view. Fat tires and plus size bikes will shine here. However, that's not to say that it has to be ridden. It is easily walked, but stands as a natural sign to say "hey, the end is near take a breath."

You might want to pack a little extra food and water because this trail is a great destination trail that gives you ample room to sit down and enjoy the view while eating lunch, or take a quick dip in the brisk and refreshing Lake Superior.

If you don't feel like riding the whole 27 miles from Phase 1 to Phase 2, you can drive down Highway 44 until it turns to dirt. Keep going until you see signs for the Point Trail. There is an unofficial parking lot that you can use if you want to shuttle it.
