Overview
This long climb to the
Alpine Baldy summit starts on doubletrack and ends with modern flowy singletrack at the top.
Need to Know
Carry water. Also consider a layer or two; as you climb, you'll be subject to alpine weather.
Description
Approach from FS Road #6066, which is accessed 3.0 miles east of Skykomish. Drive 7.0 miles up the gravel FS Road to the Jennifer Dunn Trailhead. Hikers head up the hiking trail while you'll ride your bike past the gate, to continue up
FS Road #6067.
Grind up the rocky and rugged
FS Road #6067 doubletrack for 5.4 miles. At this point, the trail transforms into a well-built and modern flowy singletrack, and the foliage transforms into a high alpine forest. The climbing becomes much more straightforward. After a bit more than 7.0 miles, you'll end up just below the summit of
Alpine Baldy. Find the bench, and take in the amazing views.
Turn your bike around and get ready for the 2.0 mile flowy descent off the top. If you have enough gas, climb up and do it again! Then descend the doubletrack, which rides much better on the way down then on the climb up.
Thanks to the visionaries at Evergreen for putting in an alpine flow trail on top of an old-school doubletrack grinder!
This trail will improve with more riders, and when Evergreen completes planned additional trails to enable loops in the area.
