Description

Deer Run Trail is shown as the purple trail on the land manager map, but the plastic blazes have faded to pink and there are some orange ones thrown in for good measure.

You'll have to access the trail using one of the other trails. From the southern trailhead near the entrance, take Cheaha Express (yellow blazes), which is filled with rocks and roots for about 0.3 miles to the intersection with Deer Run. The rocks and roots continue on the Deer Run as it contours along the side of Cheaha Mountain among some large boulders. The trail is pretty narrow and there are a few short water crossings from springs higher up on the mountainside. It ends at the Lower Spring trail (blue blazes) just after you pass a small creek with several cascades. There is a footbridge over this creek since it is a little bit wider than the others.

While you're quite a ways up compared to the surroundings, the trail is covered in dense foliage, so you never really get a decent view.
