A great 75-minute ride on the lower part of the mountain. A rolling climb and a lot of fast, flowing singletrack.

Description

This loop is a go-to for lots of locals. It’s on the lower mountain and the climb is pleasantly rolling. Enter the trailhead and follow the Gully Trail to the first right, Sweet Shady North. You'll cross a gully and then climb along a fence for about 100’ where you take a left at the green gate on your right. When Sweet Shady splits, take the right fork and climb to CC’s Corner. Now descend into Plumber's Crack, which will climb and descend for a bit more than a mile.

Stop at the vista at Dead Deer Point and then enjoy the fast descent that follows. On descent and traverse, you'll pass Zip n' Out on the right, and cross over Wapiti Whip just past a large gully with a rainbow rock in the middle. After more climbing, don’t miss the right-hand turn where Lower Rock n' Roll ends at Plumber's Crack. Climb more to the bridge crossing and a punchy ascent, and when the Crack hits a T, you'll take the left and this is the start of Wapiti Whip. If you go right you are on Upper Plumber’s Crack. Turning left you'll climb up through a basin, cross a small gully, and double back on a bit of a sidehill until the trail wraps back around and descends into another gully with a nice bridge. You'll join up with Lower Rock n' Roll by going straight. You would need to take a right to stay on Wapiti.

Rock n' Roll now rips through a fun, flowy section that will merge back into Plumber's Crack. You'll be hauling ass at this point but be aware that you are likely to encounter a rider climbing on this part of Plumber's Crack. Look for the left onto what locals call the Radar Love section of Wapiti Whip. Now climb to a ridge where you cross an unnamed game trail and continue straight into another fast, flowy section that will seamlessly, and at high speed, join up with the lower part of Herfendoodle.

Herf will drop you into a gully and over a bridge and then up a sidehill and a switchback. About 100 yards down the trail, look for the right-hand turn onto the Cactus Cut Off. About 50 ft. into Cactus Cut Off, you'll encounter the namesake cactus, if you're lucky enough to be there on the right day in May, it will have dozens of bright red flowers on it. Follow this trail until it intersects with Zip n' Out and take a left. You can follow Zip all the way to Gully Trail where you'll take a left and follow it out to the trailhead.
