Description

This climbing trail provides singletrack access to the Prince Creek and Crown BLM trail system. While it closely parallels Prince Creek Road, the trail is within dense scrub oak often enough that the road disappears. The trail crosses a number of small bridges, and shares a portion of two-way trail and a couple larger bridges with the parallel descending-only Lower Monte Carlo.

While bikers will use this trail for up direction only, be on the lookout for runners and hikers who may use the trail in the down direction. Similarly, watch out for two-way traffic in the large meadow section half way up.

A new upper segment was built in 2018 for this trail on BLM land. Find this segment by riding on Prince Creek Road beyond the cattle guard for about 75 yards, and look for the sign on your left.

The lower start of the trail is meant to encourage riders to ditch the car and ride from home in Carbondale. For those coming from farther away, the "Bull Pen" Trailhead Parking Area (at the lower end of this trail) is the best place to start and finish your ride in the Prince Creek area.

Low hanging fruit or Oaks in this case. Some describe this section as the Bucket area, as theres a old rusty bucket hanging in the trees. Watch your head if you're tall here.
