H.I. Trail climbs an old discontinued forest road before descending to an overgrown section and then uphill to an open area at the start of Shorty’s Cabin Trail. Expect great views of Mt. Katahdin along the way and at the clearing (see photo).
Take 95 North to the Sherman exit and look for Route 11 West. Follow signs to KAWW on Staceyville Road to Swift Brook Road and the Katahdin Loop Road. Use the MTB Project mobile app to follow your location (blue dot) as you get close to the starting point of this trail and the KAWW Loop featured ride.
Moderately steep. Uneven terrain with small rocks or roots.
Sizable rocks & roots. Steep sections.
