Description

Brumley Nature Preserve offers about nine miles of trails that are fun in either direction. The trails are most commonly ridden in a clockwise direction, but both ways offer unique challenges and excitement.

You'll start at the parking lot and begin on Wood Duck Way. After about half a mile of fun, smooth singletrack, you'll arrive at the Springhouse Loop. This loop is the largest and longest trail of Brumley Nature Preserve and is absolutely a great time. Rideers will finish this loop and turn around to hit it again because of how fun it is.

You'll begin with some speedy, off-camber singletrack that will eventually turn into a few climbing switchbacks up a hill. At the top of the hill, you'll face a few challenging and technical rock gardens. There are route choices at the rock gardens that vary in difficulty.

After the rock gardens, you'll continue to slowly climb. The climb is broken up with quick bursts of smile-inducing downhills that take your mind off of the long ascent. Eventually, you'll come to the crossroads of the Buckeye Loop. From here, continue left and continue climbing! Before you know it, you finally reach the summit about halfway through the Buckeye Loop. Unbeknownst to most riders, you've ascended some 200-250 feet from the start of the Springhouse Loop! For the Piedmont of North Carolina, this elevation gain is quite rare on one climb. But now it's time to descend!

The descent is slow and gradual but incredibly fun! Riders of all skill levels will love this descent as you can make your experience whatever you like. Be careful on some of the flat turns as it is easy for your bike to wash out. Pump over the rollers or boost off of them for air! Scream as you drop down the whoop-de-doos and have a great time!

The run bottoms out at the crossroads of the Springhouse Loop. Proceed left onto the Springhouse Loop and take the short cutoff trail over onto the Conservation Corps Loop. This new, narrow loop will hit you hard with a quick climb but you'll be rewarded with a fun descent on the other side.

Continue left back onto the Springhouse Loop for some more singletrack flowy fun and eventually arrive at Wood Duck Way. Take a left to slowly climb and arrive back at the parking lot! Hop in your car or turn around and try it the other way! Both directions are just as fun and exciting and offer unique challenges and experiences.

Fun rock garden! The line to the left (CW) is the fun, really techy line. I wasn't able to clean it on two attempts, but just gives me something to shoot for next trip.
