Description

So, this road is a straightforward, steady climb for over ten miles. You pull off where the sidewalk ends, hop, on, and climb up. Very easy in terms of directions: there's really nowhere to get lost. There are those that will claim this is boring and avoid it, and it is pretty mundane, but the views of Western Colorado make the climb worth it.

The road is sandy in spots, and there are other spots with braking bumps and grading. But, the roads non-technical nature makes this an option for a range of bike types, though you'll probably want to have your tires pumped up firmly to help with efficiency.

At the top, the road continues for over ten miles along a very gradual incline to reach Highway 65. Most riders will probably turn around after the initial climb is complete to enjoy a fast return down.

So, as you ride up the Mesa, this is pretty much what it looks like the entire way. It's a long, sustained climb at an achievable yet challenging grade. Turning around, one sees the shadow the Mesa cast over the earth.
