Watch the alders and rocks.

Description

The Cheese Grader is a very fast, well-traveled route that provides great access to a couple of different singletrack systems. As the name implies, there is one unavoidable and particularly rocky promontory near the top that has been known to chew up its victims. Otherwise, the trail switches from sometimes dual to sometimes singletrack.

Rideers should beware of encroaching alders and stick to the middle of the track. This track has also been known to cause flats with a prevalence of sharp, rocky schist. At the large junction area at the bottom, riders have an option of flying down the Pillar Creek Trail at mach speed on the north face or bike up the Back 40 connector to the eastern face. Both directions are necessary to experience the breadth of Kodiak's great trails.
