And old Santa Fe saying goes like this: "If you are sadistic, then climb up Picacho Peak on your mountain bike." Not really, but if enough people do it then maybe it will catch on.

With all the challenging trail options in this region, there really is no reason to make this climb other than to hurt yourself. This part of the Dale Ball network is much more popular with hikers as it is a better hike than bike. That said, there are those hearty souls out there who are ready to suffer.

As a descent, this trail is still very challenging as it is steep and the switchbacks are tight. Most folks who ride it down are coming off the north end of Atalaya Trail (SFNF #170).

With all that said, the view is amazing so give it a whirl. Happy trails!
