Description

The Windy Creek Trail starts at the northern terminus of Colorado Creek Trail at the Wolf Run Cabin.

The Windy Creek Trail parallels Windy Creek on the north side, following the drainage up the valley. It winds through black spruce forests and open meadows while gradually climbing for a long stretch.

The grade kicks up as the trail climbs steeply through Windy Gap and emerges on top of a plateau overlooking the Fossil Creek drainage. The views of the White Mountains, Limestone Gulch, and Windy Arch are spectacular.

From here, the trail descends into the forest and drops steeply for one mile, crossing Fossil Creek, to an intersection with the Cache Mountain Loop Trail.
