Overview

This road starts out paved and gets smaller and smaller as you go. Eventually turning into rocky, steep Jeep road... yum! Eat it up!

Description

Start in Glenwood Springs or drive to the parking lot at the base of the Transfer Trail #602, across the street from the Glenwood Caverns parking area.

Head up onto Transfer Trail #602 and climb the packed gravel for a few miles and reach a saddle close to the top of the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. From here, you can see down into the town of No Name, and you can see out west past Storm King Mountain.

This is where the rocky jeep road begins. Climb the road on the side of the mountain to the crest of the hill where you'll enter more aspen and pine forest. Follow the road until you reach Windy Point.

Continue past Windy Point for a while and link up with other roads and trails in the Flat Tops Area or turn around and enjoy the long descent back down the way you came.

There are optional descents to the west down into Mitchell Creek and Canyon Creek, and to the east, you have Coffee Pot Road, Jess Weaver Trail, Grizzly Creek, and trails down into Dotsero. All of these are overgrown, old-school National Forest trails... Beware.
