Description

The route starts as a jeep road in a dry, pine forest and quickly opens up into the Pettengill Creek meadows. The trail continues through meadows for a few miles. It's a beautiful setting with mountains in the background.

The route then jumps back into the woods for a quick section before breaking out into meadows again. At the end of this section, the trail passes through two stock camps and two gates. From here, the tread narrows to singletrack, remaining so all the way to the Pioneer Loop National Recreation Trail #750 junction.

This section also begins as an easy climb as the forest becomes more lush, following Pettengill Creek. Watch for a few boggy sections above the Copper Creek Trail junction. Through here, the trail could be overgrown and easy to lose. Stay alongside the creek, and you'll pick it up again.

The route climbs out of the valley bottom during the last three miles and crosses to the east side where a new trail was constructed in 1995. This new section, on the south side of the creek, passes through a variety of pine forest, grasses, and wildflowers as it reach its end at an intersection with the Pioneer Loop National Recreation Trail #750.
