Family Friendly Nice, wide, flowing trails. Great for beginners.

Closed for skiing during the winter months. The Madawaska Nordic is groomed for classic skiing when there is snow.

Overview

The Madawaska Nordic trails are great for beginners, and more technical trails are built off of the main doubletrack loops.

Description

This ride features rolling hills and some rocks. It is all doubletrack which makes it great for beginners.

The start is at the Madawaska Nordic parking lot located on Crestview Drive in Calabogie (across from Calabogie Peaks Resort).

Start out on the Red Pine Trail, which is the main trail off the Madawaska Nordic trail system. This trail has some short, punchy climbs. There are some sections with roots, and the odd rock, but overall this is an easier route.

Take a left onto Hemlock Loop. This trail branches off from Red Pine, does a loop through a hemlock forest, then returns back to Red Pine. There are a few small, but steeper climbs through the mature hemlock forest. It is a wider trail with some rocks and roots.

From the Hemlock Loop, you can loop back to Footloose which is one of the easier loops. The trail gradually slopes down towards Constant Creek, which winds its way along the northern edge of this loop. Deer frequent this area because of the water access. After you pass Constant Creek, there is a gradual uphill taking you back to the Red Pine Trail. Continue up Red Pine to the short loop at the end of the trail and then head back the way you came.

From Red Pine, you can take a left on Hemlock Loop again to access Horse Collar and Snow Bunting. There are a few small but steep climbs to keep it interesting, interspersed with nice views of Calabogie Peaks Resort.

From Snow Bunting, you can hop back on Red Pine to head back to the parking lot and complete your tour of the Madawaska Nordic Trails.
