Be careful during the evening and on weekends as there is lots of unrestricted target shooting nearby. The trails here are in "Rifle" after all...

Description

This is no longer a recommended trail as it crosses multiple recreational target shooting areas. If you are here on the weekend or evening, sometimes this area will resemble the wild, wild west. I highly recommend you instead park at the Y or at the well-maintained BLM lot 2.0 miles further down the road.

Also, there is some debris or trash on the trail from targets blown to bits, empty ammunition, or just some trash that people leave instead of having to pay a fee to dump it at the landfill. This is such a shame considering what a gem and enjoyable area this is. Many cleanup efforts have been made only to have trash return in only a few days later.

A's and W's rides smooth and has enough curves to keep it interesting going up and you can carry a lot of speed going back down. It starts from a small pull off shortly after the tar ends on the north side. Drop into the creek bed and back up the 4x4 road. Ride the 4x4 road for only a short bit and the singletrack will appear to your slight left. Once you're on the singletrack, it's hard to lose it. You'll cross one wide road/target shooting area. Go straight across and pick up the trail on the other side. Be friendly to shooters and announce your presence if there are any. I've never had any problems with shooters, just be cool and don't act like you own the trail.

There is only one difficult part of the trail when it drops abruptly into a dry creek bed and then immediately back out. A couple helper rocks make this a smooth roll out but flash floods can cut away at the bank of the creek bed and make the angle more challenging than the last ride so be aware!

This trail ends at a 4x4 road. Cross the road and you immediately start on Lower Sidewinder (a short segment connecting more Rifle trails).
