Description

The worst part of Charlie's Challenge Back is the grueling climb at the back of the lake. The start of that climb feels like a cliff for the first 20 feet then once your tongue is hanging out, you have to go up switchbacks until you hit Trevor's Trail. Steve's Hill was developed as an alternative bypass to the climb, but don't get too excited. You still have to go UP. There's only one way to gain elevation, and this is by climbing, so get used to it!

Steve's Hill starts in the meadow and crosses a little creek on what appears to be an old farm road. The singletrack then cuts to the left and goes up into a cove. Once you get up into the ravine of the cove and after a couple of switchbacks, you'll start a short, steep ascent to the first bench. Be careful in wet weather, as this part of the trail has some sticky mud at times. Once you make that climb, you'll be sailing on some easy singletrack out to Charlie's Challenge Back right at the junction of Trevor's Trail.
