Beginning at the Flat Holler Trailhead ride back up Bald Rock Road opposite the direction you came in and look for a wooden bridge across the creek on the left (north). This is the beginning of the Sore Heel Trail.

The first half meanders along the creek bottoms over a few wooden bridges and some rock armored sections. This is an easy and wide--but enjoyable--section. After reaching the upper parking lot (difficult to reach in a passenger car) the character changes as the trail leaves the bottoms and follows and old doubletrack up the hillside.

This trail is the lollipop stem of a longer trail under development.
