Need to Know

This trail is currently an out and back and is quite remote.

Description

The trail starts off Fayette Station Road. Fayette Station Road is a one-way road and as you travel down, there will be a gravel road that turns off to your right. The trail starts about .25 miles off the gravel road and is marked by a gate. If you start in Fayetteville at Town Park, you can get to Fayette Station Road via trails and ride (against traffic) up the road, and the gravel road will then be on your left. Visit New River Bikes or Marathon Bikes in downtown Fayetteville, and they will give you directions from Town Park.

The Hawks Nest Connector Trail is the first section of the planned through-park trail system that will eventually connect river-right and river-left with Ansted, Hawks Nest State Park, New River Gorge National River and Fayetteville. The trail is half conversion from an old road bed and half benched singletrack. It's rated as blue/black and is a hard blue, but easy black. There are some really fun technical rock gardens, beautiful rock work, and some narrow singletrack.

One of the few openings in the hillside by the trail. This picture is a good representation of the majority of the trail tread.

Just maintained by Park Service. In good shape. Tight steerage. Steep drop off towards the river. 28 mile loop if starting from Fayetteville. 3.5mi — 0h 40m
