Family Friendly MOST but not all of these trails are mild to moderately easy with not much elevation change. I have seen kids on BMX bikes and kids under 10 years old ride them.

The land is owned by Golden Hills CSD and the Railroad, so please be responsible and respectful so they continue to let us recreate here.

Overview

This route features classic trails that have supplied local bikers with a fun ride for over 20 years. The trails just keep getting better. Come check them out! You can ride most of the way to Keene on dirt!

Need to Know

Wildlife is plentiful in the area and it's not unusual to see bobcats and deer. Sheep graze here from time to time so the trails can get hammered and powdery. Many locals hike, run, and walk their dogs off leash. Please share the trails and be courteous.

Note: there is very little actual singletrack riding on this trail and the trail is not marked at any point.

Description

To access this ride, start at Meadowbrook Park and head north on the paved Freedom Trail until it ends. Go through the opening in the fence on the left and travel north along the railroad tracks. This section can be roughed up if train machinery has been operating in the area. Also, be prepared for the last dip, as it's a bit of an off-camber turn.

This left-hand departure from the tracks (Singletrack to Pipe) is fast and flowing as you keep descending to Hans Rey. This is a popular section so be on the lookout for other users.

Ahead, keep left at the split to ride Hans Rey. This is one of the most beautiful trails in the area and the seasonal creek, mature oak canopy, and frequent wildlife sightings make it a real winner! All too soon, the singletrack gives way to a road-trace that heads to the Tom Sawyer Loop.

The loop around the lake can be ridden in either direction and it's a nice way to add some singletrack mileage. Beware that the lake can be a bit smelly if the water level is low and you're likely to encounter equestrian riders here.

When you've completed a lap around the water, head back the way you came and take a left before the first house. Head north on Bald Mountain Drive then keep straight on the road-trace, keep heading straight onto Watson Place and veer left at the end of the cul-de-sac.

Across the next road you'll find two trails. Take the left option over dips and climbs to Marigold Ave. Keep heading north for a little ways before making a right on Sycamore Drive. At the next intersection turn right, away from Quail Canyon Road, and get ready for another fast section of singletrack on Rattlesnake Downhill that soon connects to Brite Creek Wash.

Brite Creek Wash features a pleasant road that casually winds at the bottom of a small valley as it heads to Nar Sprint and then to Singletrack to Pipe. If you want to maximize your riding, turn left onto Nar Sprint and descend till the end. From there, make your way back and turn toward Singletrack to Pipe to start the gentle return trip back to the parking area.

History & Background

These trails have been in existence since the late 80's or early 90's and have morphed into what they are today. FUN!
