The Waterline Trail begins at Three Caves and follows the waterline to the Bluff Line Trail. The lower section of the trail from Three Caves up to the Annandale Trail is much easier than the section between the Annandale Trail and the Bluff Line Trail, although very little of the trail is "easy".

The lower section can be characterized as a rock-armored causeway with some fill dirt thrown in for good measure. It is narrow in some places, and eroded in some places. However, since the lower section isn't as steep as the upper section, most of it is rideable. Just above Three Caves, the trail intersects with the Alms House Trail. About halfway between the Alms House Trail and the Annandale Trail, it intersects with the Young-Kennedy Trail (to the left if starting at Three Caves) and the Flourish Trail (to the right). The last intersection before the Bluff Line Trail is with the Annandale Trail.

The upper section is mostly hike-a-bike. Some portions of it pass along waterfalls and are almost impossible to attempt without two free hands. Biking the section between the Annandale Trail and the Bluff Line Trail is not recommended.
