To get to the western trailhead for Mel's Trail, go about 300 meters east along SFU's South Campus road from it's intersection with Gaglardi Way. Look for the patch of gravel road on the right just past the weather station (small white box on legs). Hop the curb and ride the gravel for 10m. Look for the singletrack on right.
This trail will take you down to University Drive. Use caution when crossing the 4 lanes of high speed traffic.
The trail surface is mostly packed, west coast loam. Ladders, roots and some rocks keep it interesting. It can get pretty muddy in the rain but is always worth the ride. The trail terminates at the Trans Canada Trail - Burnaby Mountain Segment.
