Description

The warm up loop is a great trail to start your ride at South Park. Volunteers from Trail Pittsburgh with the assistance of the Allegheny County Parks rangers have completed several projects on this 2 mile loop. In addition to two major reroutes, the trail has been marked with Red Blazes.

From the Ice Rink/Woods Cafe Lot,ride up One Hundred Acre Dr towards Twin Hills Rd and the trailhead will be on the left, just past the natural gas meter. Follow the Red blazes you onto a rolling flowy trail. At the fork in the trail, follow the red blazes to the right and head up to Twin Hills Rd.

After you cross Twin Hills Rd you follow the power line right of way as you ride up the grass toward the pavilions, the trail enters the woods just to the right of the upper most pavilion. As you climb the hill you'll emerge from a tight bush lined corridor into a mature forest with tall trees and rolling tread with the occasional roots and rocks until you reach Stoltz Rd.

At the bottom of the short descent follow the red blazes to the right. You'll ride past a small fenced in gas line enclosure before dropping into a short descent and cross a rocky drainage. The trail will parallel Stoltz Rd it runs into Twin Hills Rd.

Continue out to Twin Hills Rd, make a right, and renter the woods on the left hand side of the road. Once on the trail, follow the red blazes to the left and drop into a series of S turns before climbing the serpentine singletrack before dropping down to the gas line right of way. At the end of the right way the trail turns to the left and traverses the final series of S curves before crossing a small stream. After the stream crossing you have two options to return to the trailhead on Twin Hills Rd. The trail to the left crosses an elevated bridge before traversing a rooty incline and out to the trailhead The trail to the right loops around to the right before returning to the trailhead on One Hundred Acre Dr.

First time on this trail. Really nice loop with some technical downhills that made the ride very interesting and fun. No overgrowth, trail was clear. 4.2mi — 1h 00m
