Description

The Double Lake Recreation Area has one of the most extensive networks of singletrack in the Houston area. The network is set up a series of loops that can be linked up to make as long or short a ride as you want.

This trail is the shortest loop in the park. It doubles back on itself to make two loops around the lake. The trail is very nice flowy singletrack in the trees. It is almost all shady which is nice on a summer day and the sandy soils in this area drain quickly making it one of the first to dry out after a storm.

The best place to park is near the lodge. There are restrooms and showers here which are really nice after a hot, sweaty ride. From the parking area, the best way to start is to ride back up the road you came in for about 1/4 mile until you see the trail crossing sign to the left - This is the start of the singletrack. From here, head into the trees and follow the trail.

There are a few road crossings on this trail, so watch out for cars. The crossings are well signed and you shouldn't have any trouble picking up the trail on the other side. There are a few trail junctions along the way, but keep following the digns for the DLRA Trail and you shouldn't have any trouble finding your way back to the trailhead.

If you want to make a longer loop, the best way to go is to turn left at the junction with the Henry Lake Trail. This will take you out of the Double Lake Recreation Area, but you'll still be in the National Forest. There are a number of longer loops available to you if you head that way.

Sometimes this junction isn't well marked. Watch for this turn.
