Overview

There is truly something for everybody. Take the family on the doubletrack trail with its wide corridor and non-technical aspects while the more adventurous will enjoy the speed and flow of the Green Trail and Blue Trail. This trail system is also known as the Rudy Mine Trails.

Green Trail: 2.5 mile Loop - Beginner
Blue Trail: 6.5 mile Loop - Intermediate

Need to Know

From Owensboro take HWY 60 West past the Ben Hawes Park main entrance on Booth Field Road. Keep traveling HWY 60 West to Overstreet Road. The parking lot and trailhead is located at the old George H. Rudy Mines and Saw Mill.

Description

This ride links the Green Trail to the Blue Trail. Start by following Green Trail in whichever direction is denoted for the day of the week.

Shortly after starting down the trail, bear off onto Blue Trail. This is an intermediate trail of about 6.5 miles. It features lots of fast flow and a few optional technical features. There are many berms and rollers to enjoy. The climbs are rewarded by sweet flow!

Eventually, you'll find yourself back at the Green Trail. Follow it back to the trailhead.

History & Background

Designed by Alex Stewart of Spectrum Trail Design and Southwest KyMBA (Formerly known as the Bowling Green Chapter of the Kentucky Mountain Bike Association).

After a 2009 ice storm destroyed the mountain bike trails at Ben Hawes park the City of Owensboro put up $25,000 to revitalize the trail. Since 2010 the Kentucky Mountain Bike Association (SW KyMBA) has worked closely with Owensboro Parks & Recreation along with Spectrum Trail Design to build new trails. Now with 9 miles of professionally designed and constructed, bike optimized trails, its become a very popular destination..
