Description

Canyons provides the most diversity at Curt Gowdy. It's also the longest trail in the park.

The route runs from the south end of Shoreline through Middle Kingdom to the south end of Crystal Reservoir.

From the north end, the route travels in a hidden canyon. The tread is moderately technical with a fair amount of rocks to navigate. Canyons descends steadily through a series of switchbacks and turns to the intersection with Mahogany and a bridge crossing.

The section running between here and Crystal Ridge is a bit easier with flatter grades and smoother terrain. It's also the connecting trail to Middle Kingdom.

Heading south from Crystal Ridge, Canyons gets technical again. At the junction with Cliffhanger, the route bears left and climbs in and out of rocky drainages along the upper end of Crystal Lake Reservoir.

The final portion of the trail is the most technical and a test of mettle for even the most skilled riders. Be prepared to walk the bike if you tackle this section.

Canyon's terminus is at the southern reaches of the park, at junction with Highline.

Canyons is a joke, how this is included on the IMBA Epic list is beyond me. Parts are okay but there's a mountain goat section that is ridiculous.
