Overview

This ride allows you to ride Keyauwee, Supertree, Wood Run and White Tail in both directions for a longer, more interesting ride than a standard Keyauwee / Supertree loop or the Keyauwee out and back.

Need to Know

  • During hunting season, blaze orange is recommended to be worn to avoid being mistaken for a deer.
  • The trails are built on Uwharrie National Forest land on rocky, hilly terrain that sheds water well and rarely closes for weather.
  • Looking to maximize your time spent descending? A fun shorter variation of this loop starts with a clockwise loop around Keyauwee Trail, White Tail, and the bottom of Supertree. Next, turn up the Wood Run Road to complete a counter-clockwise loop on White Tail and Keyauwee Trail before heading back to the start.

Description

This ride starts from the Wood Run Trailhead parking lot on Route 24/27. The trail starts at the trail kiosk on Wood Run Road and after about a mile, Wood Run starts on the right and connects to Wood Run Camp after a mile.

Wood Run Camp is at the intersection of Keyauwee, Supertree, Wood Run, and Wood Run road. Stay to the right after you reach the campsite and continue on Supertree for about half-a-mile and take a left on White Tail. White Tail in this direction starts as a short climb that leads to a quick downhill section to a very challenging rocky ascent up to the intersection with Supertree.

Take a right on Supertree and enjoy the "warm-up" downhill of the ride on the way back to Wood Run Camp and the start of Keyauwee.

Keyauwee is basically three ascents and three descents of varying length in both directions. This part of Keyauwee starts with a decent half-mile climb to a fast mile long descent to another half-mile mile climb to another mile long, high speed downhill section with tons of berms and high speed doubles. After the best downhill section of the ride, a brutal 1.5 mile, 350 foot climb awaits. After a short downhill, Keyauwee connects with Supertree at the Wood Run Road intersection.

Supertree starts as a half-mile rocky climb up to the intersection with White Tail. Turn right on White Tail and enjoy the third best downhill run of the ride on the way back to Supertree. At the intersection with Supertree take a left and after a half-mile descent starts a 2.5 mile rocky climb back to the start of White Tail. Continue on the half-mile downhill section of Supertree to the Wood Run Road intersection and continue on Keyauwee.

Keyauwee starts as a half-mile climb and leads to the longest, and second best downhill section of the ride. Take the optional Keyauwee Downhill Option on the right for a faster descent option with more berms and high speed jumps. This leads to two tough, mile long climbs and two 1/2 mile descents on the way back to Wood Run Camp.

At Wood Run Camp take Wood Run in the downhill direction a little over a mile back to the intersection with Wood Run Road. Take a left and follow Wood Run road a mile back to the Wood Run trailhead parking lot to conclude the ride.
