Need to Know

Description

Relatively easy and flat, part forest singletrack part doubletrack in a multi-use park.

This is not the best introduction to the trail, but I grew up near here and was surprised to find that this particular Knox County park actually allows mountain bikes. My first and only experience on it is with snow in December, 2022, but I'd say it's a worthwhile 3-5 mile trail adventure for those wanting to explore a bit from the nearby gravel roads and the Kokosing Gap Rail-Trail (less than a mile away).

I thought I'd follow the trail pretty easily based on the kiosk map, but ended up just meandering through about 90% of established trails, although they were hard to see clearly in the 6 inches of snow, so I could have been on some of the equestrian/disc golf/birding-only trails. There were blue blazes and some nylon flags scattered about, but it appears like trails would be easy to follow without the snow.

It would be a great family outing for lots of different activities, not just biking. Pure mountain bikers would likely be disappointed and should head to nearby spots such as Alum Creek, Mohican, Vultures Knob or get on all the local gravel routes near here. If maintained for bikes, this would be a nice spot for a few miles of bike-only singletrack, so nice work to the country for even establishing it.

History & Background

The park is a short distance from some great rural gravel routes.
