Overview

Located on a southwestern slope at the foot of Rila, the roads and trails above the village of Stob are suitable for riding almost all year round because they do not retain mud and the snow melts quickly.

Be aware, however, that in the cold months the sandy soils in the area are often wet, making them more difficult to climb.

Description

As usual, the idea for this route was different and more ambitious, but the short December day and many other circumstances made us change it - perhaps for the better - as this way we focused on the natural landmark above the village of Stob, which definitely deserves attention.

The pyramids, formed by wind and water in the sandstone cliffs, are beautiful and majestic, which also makes them a great backdrop for "poser" photos, but in terms of the route, the walk to them appears to be an additional opportunity - at least because the upper part of the trail is only accessible by pushing - although for any lover of technical riding, this effort will be worth it. I am obliged to remind you, however, that this is a massively visited tourist site, i.e. there are almost always people on the trail, and this calls for caution and courtesy. In addition, the trail is trampled-in sandy loam soil that erodes easily, so try to stop smoothly and not block your bike tires.

I started with the addition because, I admit, we liked it better than the main route. However, since hardly anyone would drive 100 km for 15 minutes of climbing + 1-2 minutes of descending, it makes the most sense to take advantage of the remaining 17 km of riding in the surrounding area, not least because the route will also take you to the upper side of the pyramids, which is inaccessible from below due to a landslide that has broken the ridge.

Thanks to info.mtb-bg.com website for providing the trail!
