Overview

This ride can be accessed and started nearly anywhere along the route outside of Kamenjak Park. Once inside Kamenjak, it is 90% singletrack following along the coast of the Adriatic. There are many cafes and beach bars along the route to stop for food and beverage. This route was hand drawn on a map and recommended by a local bike shop employee, and it turned out to be very easy to navigate as there are many signs pointing the route out.

Need to Know

Safari Bar is a must-stop destination for this route. If you packed swimming gear and a snorkel, this is also a great place to take a dip in the sea as there are caves in the nearby cliffs that you can snorkel through.

One bit of advice for the singletrack within the park itself: while a hybrid-style bike may be able to handle the rougher/rockier sections, I would recommend full fledged knobbys to take the impacts. Also bring a tire repair kit or spare tube as some of the undergrowth can be very sharp and spiky.

Description

The area near the starting point is mostly a mix of low trafficked pavement and back alley dirt trails getting you over to Kamenjak. Just look for a brown sign with a white bike and "315" pointing the way. These signs will guide you out and back.

After leaving Medulin, you'll follow the road into Pomer. Take the main road straight through to the other side of town where you'll hit a small singletrack bridge across the sea.

After the bridge crossing, you can either turn left and take a steep grade up the road into Premantura, or the recommended route, heading right.

If you've gone right, head up the the road a few kilometers until you reach the first left hand turn with a sign reading "Monte Kope."

From here, it is very easy to stay on track as the trail signs become much more frequent and are at every turn. Follow the trails and roads into and through the outskirts of Premuntura until you reach the entrance of Kamenjak National Park.

There is a fee for all motorized vehicles into this park; however, it is free for cyclists and pedestrians. Near the entrance, there is a small trail leading around the vehicle check-in station with a sign showing a man and a bike. These signs within the park will show the path for cyclists throughout the loop of the entire park/coast. There are many side trails and paths to explore, but you can't really get lost here. All roads eventually lead back to the main entrance if you stay on them long enough.

Once inside the park, follow the singletrack trails. They vary in quality from smooth to rutted, rocky, exposed roots. 85% of the trails within the park are covered and shaded by the overgrowth. You can also see the Adriatic almost the entire ride, and there are limitless spots to pull off, secure your bike to a tree, and jump in.

That's basically it. Once you've had your fill inside the park, simply follow the signs out, and return the same way back to Medulin. After leaving Premuntura, I'd recommend keeping right at the fork on your way back to the bridge as it's a very fast and fun downhill to the coast.

This is not a difficult ride, just a little lengthy for beginners.
