Overview

This particular loop is a bit more primitive in sections than others. The trail system is all new and will take some time to get dialed in. The Beaverhead Mountain Bike Coalition is well on their way to having a great trail system!

The absolute best part (other than the workout) of the trail system is the spectacular views of the East Pioneers, Tobacco Roots, Blacktails, Sweetwater, and of course the City of Dillon, MT! It is beyond awesome to finally have a network of trails out our back door.

Description

A few key notes about the ride. It is more desert terrain consisting of mostly sagebrush and smaller rock. There is some good flow to certain sections with nice dirt with very little rock. There was only one short 100’ section that was too steep to pedal.

To start, head out on County from the trailhead to Snake Junction and Tim's Ridge. The beginning of Tim’s is too steep to pedal and needs a switchback. There are a lot of smaller rocks on this trail with a steep grade. This trail hasn’t been ridden much and I would suggest riding up Grand Canyon instead (stay straight at Snake Junction instead of turning left, as mapped).

From the top of Tim's Ridge, head down and west onto B West up toward Antelope Junction. This is a fun smooth trail through the sagebrush with some flow and less rocky than Tim's Ridge.

Continue heading east onto B East with a slight climb and then descent to Jackrabbit Junction. This is my 2nd favorite trail of the ride. It offers some flow and a fun few hundred feet of descent! Riding in and out of the washes was stellar!

Next, head from Jackrabbit to Bluebird Junction on Pail, which is more of a fairly steep connector truck road. Riders can pedal it, but it is fairly steep.

From Bluebird, continue west on Divide to Redtail Junction, which is short and easy with sagebrush and good dirt.

Finally, head south on Grand Canyon to Paintbrush Junction. This was the favorite trail of the day in a deep canyon with rock walls. There is some good flow to this trail with some steep rocky sections. The trail is a bit off camber but makes for a good challenging descent. The trail follows the wash for part of the trail consisting of small river rock.

Continue south from Paintbrush to Snake and back to the trailhead on a fun casual grade with some small rock along the way.

Tested out some new trails. The Northwest Passage was pretty fun! Easy riding with enjoyable downhill starting where the traverse and B trails meet. 13.9mi — 2h 11m

I would recommend avoiding Tim's Ridge. The elevation you gain doesn't add any quality downhill. Go up quick gully or grand canyon instead. — 2h 22m
