Features Commonly Bikepacked

This road is open to vehicles and can sometimes be popular with the Jeep crowd who test their vehicles by making the traverse from Maple Springs on top of the mountain towards Flagpole Knob.

Description

For most automobiles, Union Springs Road dead-ends on top of Shenandoah Mountain near Maple Springs and a small inholding of private property. To continue from Maple Springs to Flagpole Knob requires a modified vehicle, two feet, or two wheels. The road has one major creek crossing over Black Run before beginning to climb in earnest up to the top of the mountain. There are several spur roads off of Union Springs Road but they all dead end.

There aren't any gates on this road and it's always open.
