Detroit Rock City is another fine Whistler offering for riders who like tech and rocks. The trail is in the Fitzsimmons zone and starts off of the road across from Schleyer and between Lower Whistler Downhill and Upper Canadian Open DH.

The singletrack starts out unassuming as it works to the first rock slab. As long as conditions are reasonably dry, this rock shouldn't give you any trouble. If it's wet though, be careful. Cut left through the clearing ahead to pass the entrance to Clown Shoes.

Detroit Rock City funnels to a jagged rock-roll with a wooden ladder on the right. The rock option is pretty blind until you are on top of it, and there isn't a lot of room to navigate through the small chute on the exit. Still, it should be easier than the wooden ladder that ends in an abrupt drop onto the rocks (if you choose this option, you probably should be comfortable with a good kick-out drop so you don't eat it in the tech). Either option feed into a rock armored run-out that's quite slick in the wet.

The trail than pokes out of the trees to brush up against Lower Whistler Downhill (riders could also enter from this point) before it turns back into the trees to reach the next rock feature. There is a ride-around on the right, but the large rock-roll is really fun and is pretty similar to Drop In Clinic. Scout your line and then head in for a surprisingly smooth roll. Ahead, there's another slab of rock with a turn at the bottom. Again, it's not too hard in the dry, but it should give you pause if it's wet.

A rough section of off-camber singletrack brings Detroit Rock City above Clown Shoes before it heads into a good-sized road gap. You'll have some excess speed as you race to a rooty intersection with Lower Whistler Downhill. Detroit Rock City hangs a right towards a huge rock slab. It can be intimidating, but you can go fairly slow at first. But at some point, you'll pick up speed and the run-out can be really rough. After that, a couple of tight, rooty turns wraps things up as the trail ends by feeding onto Lower Joyride.
