Overview
Just 40 kilometers from Belgrade in the direction of the belt is the Kosmaj - Guberec Forest (central part of Šumadija). These ancient pine forests, from which Šumadija got its name, are very poorly attended. The Citizens Association Klub-Salamandra has done lots of work to maintain the trails for recreation.
The plans of the modest funds and donations failed to mark the trail for mountain biking, so with this mapping everyone who is interested in this kind of recreation can now enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Šumadija.
From Belgrade, head to Avala and then Ralja. There are signposts in Ralja for the mountain bike track, Baberijus.
Need to Know
The length is 27km-35 km, and it is generally cross-country terrain with a combination of asphalt-macadam-forest roads.
The total elevation difference that is mastered during the climb is about 300m. The course is not too demanding and anyone with a little better fitness can do it without any problem.
Description
The trail begins in Ralja and heads over the Parcane, Baba, Guberevci and flatland of Parcanski vis, before it falls back into the jaws.
It goes through one of the most beautiful forests in the world over areas of the hotel and country club, Babe. There you can strengthen your skills in the rock garden, before continuing through the still visible pit mines which date back to Roman times.
This area is known for its roses, as it winds along near the health resort. The scents of the pine forest will refresh your lungs from the city pollution.
You'll continue through the village Guberevac onto the forest path to the Parthian and the highest point on this trail (410 m). The trail passes close to the top of the vista (from the path it takes about 20 minutes to get to, with your bicycle.)
History & Background
Mines from Roman times, dated to around the 1st-4th centuries.
