Description

This is the third segment (3.5 mi) of the Five Mile Creek Greenway District's Rail to Trail project, and the first to be completed. The segment is the Fultondale portion of the project. The trail is relatively flat and very family-friendly. You start at Black Creek Park and also pass by the Fultondale children's park and dog park.

This is an old mineral rail line – know as the CSX Transportation (CSXT) “Cane Creek Branch” - which runs 16.5 miles from Fultondale to where Five Mile Creek joins the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River. Since 2003, the Five Mile Creek Greenway Partnership has worked to make this rail line the backbone for a network of parks and trails.

The Five Mile Creek Greenway District was incorporated in March 2010 to acquire, develop and manage the Five Mile Creek Rail Trail. Member cities include: Center Point, Tarrant, Fultondale, Brookside, Graysville, and Gardendale.

See this map for an outline of the planned route in its entirety.

my wife and I took this trail out and back and LOVED it! Absolutely perfect for beginners like my wife. A relatively flat trail with few obstacles… 7mi — 1h 20m
