Family Friendly There are plenty of families with kids of all ages hiking these trails as well.

Avoid singeltrack after heavy rains or during freeze/thaw cycles.

Overview

A straightforward ride that combines a fun mix of bike paths, singletrack, and the occasional road and sidewalk connections. Riders can enjoy some mileage through a lovely river surrounding without putting in a full day. Just be sure to smile and say hi to all the other trail users you pass on this popular loop.

Description

Start at the Andiamo Dearborn parking lot, or across Michigan Ave at the Dearborn Transit Center. Follow the Rogue River Gateway Trail as it winds along the river past the Fair Lane Estate, University of Michigan-Dearborn and Henry Ford College campuses.

The Rouge River Gateway Trail ends at Ford Road, but the Hines Park Trail takes off on the other side (you could take it all the way to Northville and back if you wanted). There's an optional shortcut by cutting across the open field of the Parkland Recreation Area, otherwise, follow Outer Drive to the right (as mapped) when you come to the intersection. At the intersection with West Warren Ave, look for the start of the Rogue Park Paved Trail.

Follow the paved trail north past Tireman Road to arrive at the Rogue Park MTB Trailhead. Check out the map and kiosk, and then get started on the singletrack. Follow the switchbacks as the trail winds up and down moving north along the Rouge River. Watch for wildlife including deer, birds, and herons. Near the corner of Outer Drive and Joy Road, the trail turns to the east as it rolls down and up.

Exit onto the sidewalk at Joy Road, watching for traffic from the west. Follow the road across the bridge, and look for horses at the nearby Buffalo Soldiers stables. At the end of the guard rail simply plunge back into the trail to continue the singletrack goodness.

Follow the trail east towards the AeroModelers' Field (listen for model airplanes, typically on weekends), and then follow the arrows as the trail jumps back into the woods heading south. Enjoy the ups and downs and bridges, and turn right onto the sidewalk at Spinoza Drive where the trail exits the woods.

Multiple loops on the Rouge Park MTB Trail are encouraged! This can be accomplished by following the sidewalk along Tierman Road as it crosses the bridge. A small section of singletrack on the right heads back to the kiosk.

Otherwise, to continue returning on the loop, cross over Tierman Road before the bridge and head south on the Rogue Park Paved Trail. Where the paved trail ends at West Warren Ave, follow it until the Outer Drive Intersection. Keep pedaling along the road to the intersection with Hines Drive where the Hines Park Trail will take you back to the Rogue River Gateway Trail and back to the parking area.
