Please do not ride the trails when wet. There are very few trails close to Philadelphia, and the community works hard to keep them in good condition.

Description

This trail is part of a network of trails within Wissahickon Valley Park. You can pick up this trail at the end of the Orange Trail - South Segment, from Valley Green Rd or from Germantown Ave. on the Northwest side of the park. Use this trail to do a full bike-legal loop of Wissahickon. The Orange Trail is closed to mountain bikes north of Mt. Airy Rd; use the White Trail to connect.

If you begin this trail where the bike-legal Orange Trail - South Segment stops, you'll be turning right and climbing up a hill on the White Trail. You'll hit a series of intermittent, short changes in elevation, there are some short, rocky sections, and one particularly rooty downhill. You'll also cross one viaduct. After a small uphill section, you'll intersect a paved road (Livezey Ln), turn left on this road and descend about 200 yards. Pick up the trail again on the right side of the road. You'll see a gate disallowing cars.

Continue to follow the White Trail until you hit Valley Green Rd. If you turn left on this road, it will take you to the Valley Green Inn parking lot. You can refill water here. To continue on the White Trail, you'll turn right at the Valley Green Rd until you see a set of steps leading down to a tributary creek. The Orange Trail and White Trail are the same here. At 0.3 miles from Valley Green Rd, the trails split; follow signs for the White Trail. About 1.6 miles from Valley Green Rd, the trail splits again. You can either turn left and descend to Forbidden Drive, or descend about 400 yards before turning right onto bike-legal Orange Trail - North Segment again. The continuing segment of the Orange Trail is another mile before the singletrack ends, and you must cross the Wissahickon Creek to pickup more singletrack.

You can take the route to the right and cross on Mt. Airy Lane, but this is more fun.
