Overview

This is a great out and back ride with a moderate climb and then a ripping and flowing downhill, but it is still a backcountry ride worthy of being properly prepared.

Description

This ride starts on the Peace Creek Trail. The Peace Creek Trail starts by crossing many small creeks that feed into Peace Creek which make the beginning of the trail very lush. In Springtime, this trail is lined with wildflowers. The first 2.5 miles are very mellow with lots of little creek crossings and then the trail ascends on a south facing hillside. You'll ascend for a while and then finally get a break to catch your breath on.

Look around as you climb and take in the large rock formations all around. Finally, you'll enter pine forests and sagebrush hillsides and climb steeply towards the ridgeline. All of the trail is rideable until the first saddle. Many sections of the trail offer views of Peace Rock and the surrounding mountains and valleys. From the first saddle to the summit there are a couple loose sections. The first saddle is also a good turn around point since there will be some hiking in a couple of steep and loose sections.

Once you turn around you'll be treated to an amazing downhill that weaves down the hillsides and then flows along the creeks and draws in drainage. There are a couple rock sections on the downhill you'll want to brake check on, but otherwise it is just a ripping blast.

Since this ride is an out and back you can make your ride as short or as long as you want. I think at a minimum you should climb to the 4.5-mile mark before turning around.
