McDonald Forest Uproute to Extendo Descent

This ride features a mellow doubletrack ascent, which leads to some wonderful singletrack for the descent. There are some technical aspects of the down, so be wary of down trees!

Head up Oak Creek Drive until you reach the gate. Ride up the gravel FR 600 then take the first left onto road FR 6020. Follow this uphill until the next split where you'll stay right staying on 6020. Follow this road until it turns into a graded gravel path. You'll climb through 7-8 switchbacks before coming to a trail intersection. If you go straight you'll intersect FR 680 and a left can connect to McCullock Peak.

For this trail, you'll want to take a right at the intersection which is marked Extendo Trail. This is the downhill singletrack back to FR 6020. The downhill starts with a moderate rooty decline before you hit small valley. At the time of riding this there was still tree debris and 3-4 trees had to be hiked over in the middle section. The trail then makes a fairly steep decline through the forest before crossing a bridge and returning to FR 6020. Take a left here and you'll be back at FR 600 (oak creek).

Be careful as this forest is full of poison oak.
