Overview

11 miles of trails offering spectacular views of West Point Lake, West Point Dam and an array of beautiful nature. Multiple areas along the easier Lakeside Trail offer resting/viewing areas and are popular with hikers. Rugged singletrack awaits the experienced rider once the lake is left behind.

There are roots, lots of them in certain areas. One riders dream may be another's PITA. If you are in the PITA group, you might want to steer clear of Adventure Jam and Hack-n-Yack.

The lake is a warmly welcomed feature after a ride in the Georgia summer. Adult beverages are allowed throughout the park, so the post ride social riders have nothing to fear. BYOB.

Need to Know

Riders hold the right of way card on this trail system and hikers need to step aside to allow riders to pass. Riders, please pass hikers in a courteous manner. We don't care about your Strava times when it comes to the safety of all trail users. All trails within this system are bidirectional, so keep your head up. Though traffic tends to be light, one never knows when another rider may be coming the other way.

The trail system never closes, open 24-7, rain or shine. We ask you use your best judgment if it has been extremely wet.

Description

Starting counter clockwise, riders get a good warm-up on Lakeside Trail. Lakeside has few technical features, and allows for very fast riding. This trail ends at an alternate trailhead just below Eagle View Park

At the end of Lakeside Trail, the route crosses the road, stay right for a more technical ride on the The Island, or keep left on Turkey Run for intermediate level riding. The Island merges back into Turkey Run after .6 miles. Many riders head clockwise down Turkey Run for an out-and-back to avoid missing the short section if you ride The Island.

Turkey Run continues onward, across the main road through the park. This trail then encounters a set of short, sweet of switchbacks. On this climb you'll need to make the decision to continue on the intermediate path, or take a left onto Adventure Jam. Adventure Jam is very short twisty and rooty trail that has you either going up or down. There is no flat in this short section of trail which is rated as Most Difficult for this trail system.

30 yards or so after Adventure Jam the ride joins back up with Turkey Run where you'll have to make another decision. Continue onward to the right staying on Turkey Run, and head straight across the power line easement on Bail Out to ride the last third of Hack-n-Yack, or take a right and do the full 2.2. miles of Hack-n-Yack. If you're adventurous Hack-n-Yack will not dissapoint.

Hack-n-Yack, another Most Difficult rated trail of this system starts out as a flowy downhill with some technical surprises. Keep your attention span on what is coming up or you may quickly find yourself on the ground. Once this downhill is complete you'll be rewarded with a great view of West Point Dam before dropping into a very dense root system. Fully rigid single speeders beware. You may need to see your dentist after riding this trail. The roots mellow out some as riders meander up and down for 2 miles. Paying attention to the terrain awards one with many opportunities to get your wheels off the ground. Nothing Red Bullish, but none the less fun.

Upon finishing Hack-n-Yack keep right to merge back onto Turkey Run. Sure you can go left to do do a short out-and-back to pick up the section of Turkey Run that was missed, but it's not quite worth it. There isn't very much distance missed, but coming back down makes it worth it. Continue on Turkey Run, winding your way down to about the lowest elevation riders will see on this trail system. After climbing back out riders will find the beginning and end of Mayor's Mile. Take the further entrance on the left for the CCW direction and to get in one of the best downhill sections of the whole trail system.

Mayor's Mile is another Most Difficult trail offering roots, rocks, punchy short climbs and some navigational challenges we feel are unique to this system. You're not going to set any land speed records here, but if you have the legs and aptitude for it you'll emerge 1.3 miles later with a smile.

At the end of Mayor's Mile turn left to continue on Turkey Run. You'll now be on your way to the last 3 miles or so of standard intermediate trail. This very fast, and slightly downhill-oriented trail features some technical challenges along the way. Be careful just after the first driveway crossing. There will be a fork in the trail. Staying straight (right) at speed will bring you to a 3-4 foot drop, keep left for the ride around. The drop can be rolled if you slow down enough. Eventually you'll come across another driveway crossing as well as two road crossings before finally returning to the trailhead.

Once you get to know your way around, there are many routes one can make by linking different sections together to suit your needs. Bi-directional trails aid this open canvas attitude.
