Overview

Provides a good option if you are looking for a good mix of climbing challenges and fun descents. There are a few sections containing a lot of loose rocks but that seems to be the standard for trails in this area.

Description

Starting from the High Altitude Bike Shop, take Burro Avenue east then head north on Mescalero. Pass the town dump to enter the singletrack on the right. You'll see a wooden sign with an arrow marking the trailhead.

Follow moderate singletrack to Pines Campground. Follow more singletrack to the junction of FR-206C and FR - 568. Head north on 568. You'll then cross over two cattleguards. Shortly after the second cattleguard will be the entrance to Bailey Canyon on the left for a long descent. If you reach a wide open meadow you have gone too far as the singletrack can be hard to spot if you aren't looking for it.

You'll know the descent is complete when you go over a sizeable bump and intersect with the forest road. Take a hard left here to head East for a sustained climb on FR-206C. You'll cross a cattleguard near the top of the climb at which point you'll veer right to follow more singletrack. You'll eventually come to a split in the trail at which point you should veer right. Do not follow the fenceline. Continue to follow this climb until you reach T568A and take that all the way back to the village.
