Overview

A good climbing ride with some swoopy singletrack mixed in, with an outstanding earned descent.

Need to Know

Great for kids, beginners, and those who want to hammer a good climb to death. Use caution during the weekends as the Sandpit Trail is also a common corridor for motorized vehicles and other users.

Description

From the parking lot at Trail J - Reuter Springs, head up a 2.3 mile singletrack climb through the pines. As you come to the exit from the trail take the right around the corner, and head north near the water pump house, head across and enter the trail to Bitch Pitch. If you were to head left you would be going up a very steep climb up Trail D - Carson Cut-Across. Ride on the left side of the pump house.

As you come out across the trail, you'll see the "Forest Service Reuter Springs" sign and aN ATV issue. Head up just past the fence and and Bitch Pitch will turn right around a sharp switchback. This hand cut bench of singletrack was created by SCGMBA to remove mountain bikers from the ATV rutted and damaged road.

Climb to the top and take the right onto Trail R - Edge. This trail is singletrack through the aspens. Head south and east along the trail where it spits out onto a decommissioned 2 track, climb the rollers and then you'll come to a clearing. Go left, looking for the blue diamonds. Descend down the singletrack, into a rock garden with the a sharp downhill turn. Some riders will choose to walk this rock garden. Go into the short valley up the next little steep, and then cross the THAD ( TrailHead Animal Deterrent) wooden arch bridge.

Go the through the aspen grove to the right and run the rollers through the Trail R - Edge descent. You'll then cross a 2 track and then back onto Edge. Follow the singletrack for about mile and then the trail will branch left or right. Go LEFT. This will take you onto Trail B - Sand Pit. Follow this trail/road up to the Reuter Springs descent. It's a 2 mile sustained climb but not too steep. When you reach the crest, you'll go left and head down the singletrack onto a 2 track, onto the same trail and crossing for Bitch Pitch. Go back down the way you came up to Reuter, watching your speed on the turns.

This the two track road with three stream crossings just east of the Trail J_reuter Springs trail. A section of Beary's Ride, not the snow left by the winter highlights the Reuter trail just above. This can be utilized when the snows are still higher up..

Not rideable yet. Still way too much snow. Don’t let the dry near the trailhead fool you! 4mi
